Chelsea will finally land young Everton centre back John Stones if they meet his £34million valuation as the Toffees target Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk as a replacement, according to reports.
The Blues have already seen bids of £20m and £26m rejected for Stones but are preparing one final offer in order to land a man who could be John Terry’s long-term successor.
Despite Roberto Martinez’s public posturing the fact Chelsea went back with a second bid suggests that the two clubs are talking and the Mirror report that Everton will concede if a bid over £30m is met. There’s also the fact that Everton owe a considerable sum to the Blues for the signing of Romelu Lukaku, a debt they’d rather be without.
